Calpe is a nice historic city and with its white sandy beaches, lovely seafront and its countless restaurants makes it well-visited during high season. Calpe is at the foot of the mighty Peñon de Ifach which is 332 meters high and is Costa Blanca's Gibraltar and a walk up here will be unforgettable. Magnificent view! On one side of the cliff there are newly built complexes next to Playa La Fossa, also called Playa Levante, and on the other side there is the more Spanish whitewashed town with winding alleys. In the center you have the big avenue that stretches from the seafront where you can find all kind of service and shops, banks etc. The train station in Calpe is a bit up the hill and from there you can easily take a trip up to Denia or down to Alicante , Altea etc. In the harbor are some of the best fish restaurants and seafront stretches all the way from the center to the Calpeklippan. Take a stroll to the fishing harbor in the afternoon when all the fishing boats load their daily catch of seafood. At five o'clock every weekday there is an auction in the fishing hall Lonja in the harbor. The cows come and pick the catch and some hours later you can enjoy a wonderful good fish dinner. Calpe has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and has a rich cultural history, especially because of its strategic location by the coast.
