10 km north of Benidorm inland is the small Spanish town of La Nucia. Just over 20,000 inhabitants live here and about half come from countries other than Spain. There are many good restaurants and shops and in the older part of town we find the 18th century church and a viewpoint on the small mountain Monte Calvari. There is a newly built auditorium where artists perform and a complete sports facility for all sports such as tennis, soccer, motocross and indoor pool. In 2013, the facility was named "European City of Sport". Between La Nucia and Polop is a beautiful valley with a fantastic view from its restaurants. La Nucia and Polop are merging a bit so on Sundays you can stroll around the flea markets which have an international atmosphere. La Nucia has good transport links and is close to beaches as well as golf courses and shopping centres. There are also pharmacies, doctors' offices and banks here.
