The beautiful village of Ilgaz is located in the wooded Besparmak hills of northern Cyprus, a short jump from medieval castle ruins, archeological sites and rolling vineyards. When you drive about 4 km down to the sea you come to Alsancak with its many restaurants and shops. Alsancak village with about 6500 inhabitants is located about 12 km west of Girne, with the Kyrenia mountain that tones up in the south and the Mediterranean in the north, here the locals mix with tourists. Proximity to the mountain allows you to hike, as well as cycle around on the small local roads. There are several nice beaches, Camelot Beach, Maramonte, Escape are some of them. Walking distance to restaurants, cafes, grocery stores and bars. Not far from the area are the remains of excavations of the famous Lambousa, once a thriving city directly on the sea. There is also the open-air museum Peace and Freedom which is in two parts, one shows military vehicles and the other which is indoors shows photographs of military documents and uniforms. On Karsyaka beach which is about 7 km from Alsancak you can see the sea turtles Caretta caretta and Chelonia lay their eggs in May / June. Shopping in Alsancak village is easy, there are several well-stocked grocery stores with lots of fresh and tasty vegetables, fish and meat. There are also plenty of excellent restaurants to choose from. Try the meze at the Cenap restaurant, or at Tervetuloa.
